IWC Big Pilot Special Edition: Le Petit Prince Luxury Watch

The IWC luxury watch brand presents the newest limited edition collection in honor of one of its favorite personalities (unfortunately, who is already no longer with us) - Antoine de Saint-Exupery, the pilot and talented writer, and pays tribute to his well-known character - The Little Prince ("Le Petit Prince"). Using the same concept as for several other series of the Pilot collection , this time the Big Pilot fine watch pays homage to one of the most classic books of all time. We are talking about the new model called IWC Big Pilot Watch Edition “Le Petit Prince”.

Several other models of the Pilot collection have already been created to pay tribute to Antoine de Saint-Exupery and his Little Prince. For example, the IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar and Mark XVII Limited Special Edition “Le Petit Prince” designer watches were presented in 2013. All these timepieces have the same scheme: aviation watches decorated with a unique dial, a distinctive band and, of course, a case back with a special engraving depicting the Little Prince. This new Big Pilot model has been created in the same style. And it is definitely one the most emblematic Swiss watches from the IWC Pilot collection, along with the Mark series. The name of the watch informs that it is not the smallest model. It comes with a 46 mm stainless steel case, a rhomboid crown resembling the crown of the original pilot timepiece, as well as with a very large open dial, which emphasizes a total size of the model. As for the IWC original pilot high-end watches also known as Beobachtungsuhr or B-Uhr, they were equipped with a large pocket mechanism. Modern IWC Big Pilot models use the same concept with a large in-house automatic movement - Caliber 51111 - which can boast the 7-day power reserve.

What is the difference between the IWC Big Pilot Watch Edition “ Le Petit Prince ” designer watch and the classic version? The first distinguishing feature is its dial that has not only a specific color and finishing (very nice dark blue color and radiant finishing), but also the various indexes. While the classic model was released in white color with painted numerals and hands, this limited edition is equipped with rhodium-plated hands and indexes covered with Super-LumiNova. Thus, the dial gets even more exclusivity and depth, without losing its excellent readability - both during the day and at night. The minute track also differs by its graduation and 5-minute indications. Moreover, a typical pilot band with rivets, that is a historical feature of all pilot timepieces, now comes in brown colored calfskin. And finally, the case back shows a sketch from the Little Prince with an engraved serial number. The IWC Big Pilot Watch Edition “Le Petit Prince” luxury watch is available in just 1,000 copies.
